One of the clear benefits of the Olympus DS-3000 is in the way it revolutionizes the dictation to transcription process. It records your speech onto an electronic chip (much the same as a floppy disk), which is then easily saved as a file to your computer. If your computer is part of a network then a typist can access the file, play the file from their own computer, and start transcribing. This means that as soon as you have completed your recording, it’s available for typing.

More efficient: You get the same functionality as with a tape-based system, but there are no tapes. The Olympus DS3000 eliminates the need to hand your dictation to a typist, making transcription very straightforward and efficient.

Files are small enough to be e-mailed: Since the files are recorded in a compressed format (to about 1/14th the size of a wave file), they will on average be small enough to be sent by e-mail.
The Olympus DS3000 is supplied with 2 (16MB) of storage capacity. 16M will give 2 ½ hours recording time in a high quality recording format (each), or 5 hours in a lower quality recording format.

Send your transcription from anywhere in the world: If you travel regularly then you can record your dictation to your laptop computer and then e-mail the recorded message back to your regular secretary. Since you are dealing with the typist you always use, there is less of an opportunity for errors and problems to occur in the process, resulting in a more accurate transcription.

Even a technophobe can use it: The Olympus DS 3000 has the best software available for digital dictation. The system can be configured to detect when you plug the dictator into your computer, and then to automatically prompt you to download to your computer. The steps to download are as simple as plugging the recorder in to your computer and then hitting the Enter / Return button on your keyboard. Even a technophobe can use it.
